Maria is a 14-year-old nun in training who was abandoned by her parents. One day, she receives a letter from "Gabriel" informing her that she has one living relative who desperately needs her help. With only one clue, Maria leaves the convent to search for this person. Along her journey, she encounters many people whom she assists, faces dangerous situations and obstacles, and discovers love.
Since Maria was raised in the convent, she is very naive about the outside world and unfamiliar with social interactions or modern customs. She has never watched television nor attended a circus. This lack of knowledge often places her in challenging situations.
There are some discrepancies regarding Maria's age. Some sources state she is 14, while others say 16. Shoujo Magic's release lists her age as 14. However, Volume 1, Chapter 2, page 3 mentions her age as 16.
