Formerly a gymnast who trained under her now-deceased mother, Maki employs her acrobatic prowess in her fighting style to enhance her mobility. Her attacks blend dizzying leaps and somersaults with the formidable, fierce power of her kicks and throws. Maki has the remarkable ability to replicate almost any move she is hit with or witnesses, and when engaged in combat, she exhibits an awe-inspiring resilience, presence, and strength of will. Due to a conflicted relationship with her father, she lives alone. Maki appears to enjoy street fighting for the 'rush' rather than any sense of revenge or honor. Outside of fighting, Maki stands out in a crowd because of her unusual height (6 feet, which is very tall for a teen Japanese girl) and appearance; she prefers to quietly follow her quartet of friends. Her younger sister remarks that Maki can be somewhat simple-minded. Maki is reluctant to deal with several people obsessed with her. She becomes momentarily vulnerable when approached in any romantic way, especially by Julietta Sakamoto. Her signature moves are the "Air Spin Driver" and the "Air Cutter"; later, she demonstrates mastery of the art of Air Flow.
