laures

Laures is the main character. His ears resemble dragon wings, and along with his fangs and long nails, they signify that he is a demon. He introduces himself as 'Makai Koshaku,' meaning 'Prince of the Demon World.' However, it is revealed in the sixth volume that he is actually the 'Makai Kotei,' or 'Emperor of the Demon World,' making him the most powerful demon of all.

A long time ago, Laures willingly transformed into a demon to free his lover's soul from a demon's curse. He felt guilty because Alice, the woman he loved, became the demon's victim. In truth, the demon had desired Laures, but the young prince was untouchable. So, the demon targeted Laures' only weak point: Alice, the girl Laures loved. After freeing his lover's soul, he vowed to wait for her until she would be reborn, so they could be united.

Laures has been waiting until Alice's soul was reborn in Hilda, unfortunately without any memory of her previous life. He eradicated the tribe of the Azel and erased Hilda's memories so that he could win her love. He buried the holy sword of the Azel inside her body, ensuring she would be the only person in the world who could slay him. He fights against Roderick because both men love Hilda, and Rod, being the last of the Azel, is destined to wield the holy sword and bring Laures down.

Laures does not kill people out of pleasure, but he is willing to do anything, absolutely anything, to reach his goal or to protect Hilda, even if it means committing mass murder. On the other hand, he would also sacrifice his own life for hers.
