Segawa Kotetsu serves as the combat butler for the Segawa family. He is the elder fraternal twin of Izumi Segawa. A recurring joke in his character arc revolves around his intense passion for trains and train turntables. Shy by nature, Kotetsu has never mustered the courage to ask a girl out on a date. His dismal luck with women has left him feeling somewhat bitter towards the entire female gender. However, this changes when he encounters Hayate at Hinagiku's birthday party and instantly falls in love, mistaking Hayate for Hermione Ayasaki. Upon learning from his sister Izumi that Hayate is actually male, Kotetsu becomes furious and kidnaps Nagi in an attempt to lure Hayate out, curious if Hayate remains a butler even while dressed in girls' clothing. This act was driven by an unclear objective.
After being confronted by Nagi about his superficial approach to love, Kotetsu resolves to change his ways and continues to hold feelings for Hayate, even after discovering Hayate's true gender. Subsequently, he becomes deeply infatuated with Hayate, employing various tactics to spend time together, such as challenging him to ping pong matches during visits to hot springs. Despite his frequent appearances in the manga, Kotetsu is rarely seen in the anime, making only brief cameos occasionally. Nonetheless, Izumi often mentions him throughout the series.
