Konata Izumi is more or less the "leader" of the main characters by default. Nicknamed "Kona-chan" by her friends, she is an eccentric yet friendly and outgoing girl with a mischievous but good-natured sense of humor. She can be smart, but she detests studying, leading to somewhat unstable grades. However, she excels at pulling all-nighters. Unlike her study habits, she loves video games and can compete against Kagami Hiiragi in trivia games by remembering question orders rather than knowing the answers. Additionally, she adores anime, influenced by her father, Soujirou Izumi, who buys ero-games for himself, allowing her to play them too. When she turned eighteen, Konata was thrilled as she could now legally purchase and play ero-games. In the anime, Konata constantly references or parodies popular games, anime, and manga, much to Kagami's annoyance, but her favorite franchise seems to be the Haruhi series, as she has numerous Haruhi figurines and even attended Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekisou with her friends. She often gives false information to her family, making her father believe that Kagami and Tsukasa are shrine maidens.
Interestingly, her voice actress in the animated version, Aya Hirano and Wendee Lee, also voiced Haruhi Suzumiya in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime; other voice actors from the same series make guest appearances in Lucky ☆ Star. Since she spends a considerable amount on video games and doujinshi, Konata was fortunate to get a part-time job at a cosplay cafe. Continuing her gaming theme, she plays a male character in an online game and is married in that world. Her significant other in the game is coincidentally a male gamer using a female character. She often plays late into the night, causing her to fall asleep in class, making her a frequent target of her homeroom teacher, Nanako Kuroi. One of her talents mentioned in the show is that she can name all the Pokémon.
Her physique is smaller than average compared to her peers, claiming it hasn't changed since sixth grade. She is ambidextrous, unlike the mostly left-handed main cast. She has long, blue hair reaching her calves, a large ahoge, sleepy eyes, and a beauty mark under her left eye, just like her father. Her mother, Kanata Izumi, died when she was an infant, and she has lived alone with her father since.
