Kiminobu Kogure serves as the vice-captain of Shohoku and is a close friend to Akagi and Mitsui. He and Akagi are the only two players who have remained on the team throughout all three years, while Mitsui left during their first year and other players quit due to finding Akagi's rigorous training too demanding. Alongside Miyagi and Ayako, Kogure consistently encourages Hanamichi to reach his full potential. Known for his gentle, empathetic, and friendly nature, he almost always wears glasses, earning him the nickname "Megane-kun" from Sakuragi, meaning "glasses-wearing guy." However, when necessary, he displays remarkable willpower and brutal honesty, such as when he barely reacted after being slapped twice and harshly insulted by the embittered Mitsui during a gym altercation.
Though often on the bench, Kogure brings valuable experience and offensive power to the team whenever he plays. He is frequently subbed in to replace one of the starters. An adept shooter and tactician, he made a crucial three-pointer against Ryonan.
