He is incredibly passionate about his aspirations, voicing his ambitions through energetic and inspiring speeches that deeply affect everyone who listens. He convinces Simon to assist him in drilling through the roof of the village to reach the world above. However, their initial plan fails, leading to Kamina's imprisonment. Later, with the help of Simon and a young girl named Yoko, he escapes after battling Gunmen that invaded the village from the surface. After breaking through to the surface, Kamina, Simon, and Yoko encounter numerous enemies and allies along their journey. They eventually form a resistance force called the Gurren Brigade to fight against the Beastmen Empire, which preys on humans living on the surface. Kamina becomes their leader. During a battle to capture an enemy's moving fortress belonging to one of the Four Divine Generals, Thymilph, Kamina sustains fatal injuries. Severely wounded, he merges with Simon to form Gurren Lagann and defeats the Beastman General using his signature move, "Giga Drill Break." Kamina dies in the cockpit, leaving Simon with these words: "Don't believe in the Kamina who you believe in. Don't believe in the Simon that I believe in. Believe in the Simon who believes in himself." Kamina is buried on the battlefield where he fell, his nodachi planted into the ground and his cloak tied to its sheath. He also helps awaken Team Dai-Gurren from a false universe created by the Anti-Spirals.
