A psychologist specializing in counseling and assisting recovering alcoholics. His appearance is reminiscent of the American actor Wilford Brimley and Shunsaku Ban from Astroboy. Naoki Urasawa has also utilized Brimley's likeness in the Pluto manga. He first appears in Chapter 49.

He becomes entangled in the mystery surrounding the Monster after one of his patients, Richard Braun, allegedly dies in a drunken accident while investigating Johan Liebert. Subsequently, he takes on the role of guardian to Dieter and supports Tenma in various ways, defending Tenma's character. Additionally, he provides psychological care to Nina, Eva, and others.
