Kurogasa, also known as Udou Jin-e, was a hitokiri during the Revolution and evidence suggests he continued his killing spree even after the war ended. He targeted high-ranking officials of the Meiji government, which led some to speculate that he had fought for the Tokugawa shogunate during the conflict. Despite claiming to be a member of the Shinsengumi, his bloodlust drove him to kill even his own squad members. Dressed in a long scarf, straw hat, and kimono, Kurogasa possessed a unique ability to project his "swordsman's spirit" through his eyes, hypnotizing opponents with his Shin no Ippo technique, which could also enhance his strength. Obsessed with defeating the legendary Hitokiri Battousai (Himura Kenshin), Kurogasa attempted to assassinate Mr. Tani, a government official, but was thwarted by Kenshin. He left, stating that he wouldn't fight unless Kenshin gave it his all. The next day, Kurogasa kidnapped Kamiya Kaoru, hoping to force Kenshin back into his old ways as a hitokiri. Kenshin followed Kurogasa’s trail to the forest where they dueled again. Despite Kaoru's life being in danger, Kenshin refused to fight with lethal intent, allowing Kurogasa to overpower him. Frustrated by Kenshin's restraint, Kurogasa used his Shin no Ippo to paralyze Kaoru, preventing her from breathing. This pushed Kenshin to revert to his Battousai persona, overwhelming Kurogasa and breaking his arm. As Kenshin raised his sword to deliver the final blow, Kurogasa eagerly awaited his fate, but Kaoru's plea stopped Kenshin in his tracks.
