Hinagiku serves as the current student council president and kendo club president at Hakuou Academy, where Nagi, Isumi, and eventually Hayate study. At fifteen (later turning sixteen), she is a kendo expert. She first encounters Hayate when he gets lost on the vast Hakuou campus and invites him to the top of the clocktower, an area reserved for student council elites. Hinagiku permits Hayate to address her by her first name and seems smitten by his appealing personality.
Other characters sometimes describe Hinagiku as somewhat masculine for a girl. Miki attributes this perception to Hinagiku being perceived as "cooler" than the boys and her domineering nature during her younger years. Her athleticism, competitiveness, and leadership role likely reinforce this impression. Despite these robust traits, Hinagiku harbors a profound fear of heights.
It emerges that Hinagiku shares a similarly painful past with Hayate. She and her sister were abandoned by their biological parents, who left them burdened with an 80 million yen debt (around $660,000 US) shortly before Hinagiku's sixth birthday. Subsequently, her sister Yukiji repaid the debt, and they moved in with the Katsura family since Mr. Katsura had been Yukiji's elementary school teacher.
In episode 13 of Hayate no Gotoku Season 2, the concluding episode of the 'Hinagiku Arc', Hinagiku acknowledges her deep love for Hayate, paralleling the manga’s chapter 98.
By the fourth season, she resides in Nagi's dormitory as one of its tenants.
