When Hikaru was in grade school, she starred in a highly popular TV commercial. This brought her a lot of unwanted attention from jealous classmates who harassed her relentlessly. Consequently, Hikaru grew up without any real friends, aside from her loyal pug named Sumikko. Despite her tomboyish tendencies, her natural beauty still shone through. She wasn't an ugly duckling; rather, she was more like an ostrich with her head buried in the sand.
When her parents decided to move to France, Hikaru transferred to the prestigious Seika Academy, an all-girls school famous for molding its students into ideal "Yamato Nadeshiko," or perfect Japanese women. While this was all well and good, all Hikaru really wanted was to blend in and remain anonymous. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on her side. Her new roommate turned out to be the most renowned student at the school, pop idol Izumi Kido. Things took a turn for the worse when Hikaru stumbled upon Izumi's biggest secret. Now, wherever Izumi goes, Hikaru is forced to tag along. Will the constant spotlight push the already anxious Hikaru over the edge, or will Izumi's unpredictable nature help the shy girl come out of her shell?
