Roland is a legendary astronaut and Hachi's roommate during his time on the moon. He had previously broken his leg while rescuing a woman from a fire. Roland often comes across as a typical old man who believes that today's youth have it too easy, frequently seen crunching on a squeezer.
Besides his astronaut career, he was also Mr. Gigalt's sensei and teacher. Tragically, Roland chose to end his life by staying outside on the moon for too long in a compression suit. He believed that his leukemia would prevent him from ever going into space again.
