Ryuu Genson is a practitioner of the Seven Stars Praying Mantis Fist and the more skilled disciple of Ma Ryou (Uncle Hakubi). He wears sunglasses and more contemporary attire compared to his partner, and he tends to be more irritable and arrogant.
Genson first appears with his fellow disciple and partner Shokatsu Kouan to bring Ma Renka back to Hakubi. Alongside Koan, he ends up battling Kenichi, who swiftly defeats his teammate. During Genson's fight with Kenichi, he drives Kenichi into the nearby pool. The two then engage in underwater combat, where Genson expresses surprise at Kenichi's leg strength, which had been enhanced by his earlier water training.
Both Genson and Kenichi lose consciousness underwater but are rescued by an elder who splits the water apart in half, annoyed at how the fight was dragging on. Afterward, Genson and Koan apologize for the misunderstanding caused by Renka and leave with her to return to Hakubi’s place.
Genson reappears with his partner when Renka transfers to Kenichi's school. They accompany her to take down Black Tiger White Dragon thugs sent to eliminate her. Although the trio is evenly matched against the enemy master, Genson receives help from Takeda, enabling them to defeat the master without much trouble.
Genson practices the Seven Stars Praying Mantis Fist and is initially seen using the Northern Praying Mantis stance. He was expected at the D of D by Gaku Shin Ten, whose expectations were likely based on either Genson's abilities or his reputation within the Phoenix Alliance.
