eumenes
An intelligent young boy from Cardia, Eumenes has been plagued by a recurring nightmare of a woman slaughtering soldiers since he was a child. Throughout the series, much of his past is uncovered: he is actually a Scythian, but was adopted by Hieronymus after his family was killed in a Greek slave raid. After a relatively happy childhood in Cardia, the chaos following Thrax's escape led to Hieronymus' death and the exposure of Eumenes' Scythian origins, which made him a slave. He was sold and transported away from Cardia, but the slaves on the ship rebelled and were later sunk in a storm. Shipwrecked, Eumenes found himself on the shores of Paphlagonia, near the village of Boa. There, he spent his remaining childhood teaching the villagers about Greek customs while gradually becoming one of them. This peaceful life was disrupted when a mercenary army from the nearby Greek city of Tios attacked the village.
