A member of Yami and a master-level Lucha Libre wrestler, he is known as the Smiling Steel Fist within the One Shadow Nine Fists due to his flamboyant and goofy personality. His disciple in Yomi is Rachel Stanley. During the D of D tournament arc, he serves as the sole representative of the Nine Fists on the island and acts as the tournament's referee. His belief in a man's romantic trespassing allows the Shinpaku Alliance to participate in the D of D tournament. His symbol is steel, emphasizing that fights must have an audience for their enjoyment, and the loser must obey the winner's choice regarding their fate.
Diego maintains a constant smile or laugh, even when angered. This trait seems to influence his disciple, Rachel Stanley, who shares similar views on fighting. Unknown to other Yami members, Diego and Rachel devised a plan for her to fight Kenichi, inviting him and a chosen master to a tag team battle against them. Refusal or bringing additional masters would trigger a bomb. Although surprised by Renka's arrival with Ma Kensei, Diego proceeds with the plan, later revealed to involve a ship explosion termed his "Murder Show".
When enraged, Diego loses his composure, revealing another mask beneath his "Smiling Mask", shocking Rachel and causing panic among the audience. Ma Kensei refers to this as Diego's true face, the "Angry Steel Fist". In this state, Diego battles ferociously with Kensei, extending the fight beyond the ring, disregarding the safety of his audience, now seen as targets for elimination. The real-time screening captures the brawl from ships further offshore.
In combat, Diego aims to keep opponents airborne, believing nothing can defeat Lucha Libre in the air. However, he is defeated when Kensei regains footing, declaring the earth belongs to Chinese Kenpo. Despite intervention by Miu, Kenichi, and Furinji Hayato, Diego ensures cameras capture his spectacular defeat, offering his mask to Kensei to be killed but is denied. Kushinada then throws him overboard, but he is saved by Elder and taken to Big Lock.
Diego fought Kensei on a cement floor, his body likened to steel, rendering most attacks ineffective. He displayed remarkable speed, such as trapping Kensei in a headlock, showcasing his prowess in Lucha Libre.
