In the middle of the story, Kurara's condition and how she acquired it is revealed to Kouhei by Karin. Her condition involves multiple split personalities caused by a malfunction of the GachaGachaX2 virtual reality machine. Her curiosity led to significant bugs and errors, resulting in the game's AIs being imprinted into her brain. When she switches personalities, her mind goes blank, and she cannot recall what the AIs have done. However, this does not apply to the Original 4, the four foundational AIs that serve as models for any future AIs. With the Original 4, Kurara remains conscious while they control her actions. These Original 4 can also alter Kurara's appearance to match their own.
