Also known as 'The Sword Hunter,' Chou boasts an impressive collection of rare and unusual swords. Among his arsenal is a long, flexible sword hidden around his waist and a double-bladed weapon called a renbatou. Although he's only a mediocre fighter without these exotic weapons, he employs a masterful sheathing technique. Chou maintains a calm and cool demeanor, often keeping one eye closed while conversing, only opening both eyes when excited during battle. He speaks with a Kansai-ben accent. His fighting style varies depending on the sword he wields, but he primarily uses the Garyuorochi style. One of his techniques, Orochi (Eight-Headed Hydra), involves bouncing his sword, Hakujin no Tachi (The Thin Blade), off the ground in waves. He once used Sakasa Kuchu Noutou (Mid-Air Sheathing) on Seiku's son Iori to locate the final Shakku sword placed in a temple as a godsword. It was during this time that Kenshin defeated him using that sword. Despite his skills, he proved to be no match for a well-equipped Kenshin, but he informed his opponents that all members of the Juppongatana were stronger than him. After Shishio's death, Chou visited Kenshin and his friends to update them on the fates of the Juppongatana members, then went on to work under Saitou as a spy and informant. In the anime, Chou later appears attempting to attack Amakusa Shougo but is soundly defeated. In the manga, he reappears in the Jinchuu Arc to assist in uncovering information about Enishi.
