Chansoo was Shinjurou's roommate and classmate during their time at the University of California. The two parted on good terms after Shinjurou chose to return to Japan, where he began working in Pittsburgh.

Though Chansoo originally majored in biotechnology, he developed a keen interest in embalming. Despite his family's disapproval and with support from his younger brother, Chansoo switched his major to embalming. His dream is to introduce professional embalming techniques to China and alter the stigma associated with it.

After graduating, he eventually marries Tina Wildberry and they have a child together.
