Leif's adopted son, under Leif's guidance, Bug-Eyes became a skilled sailor. His real name is also Thorfinn; the reason he ended up with Leif was the shared name and similar appearance to Thorfinn Karlsefni. He joined Thorfinn's trading voyage to Greece.

After returning from Greece, Bug-Eyes gambled away his share of money and got into serious debt. Thorfinn ends up paying Bug-Eyes' debt, and Bug-Eyes joins the expedition to Vinland.

It turns out Bug-Eyes has a talent for learning languages. He becomes the first Norseman to learn the natives' language and starts to work as an ambassador.
