yamazaki ayumu

The "den mother" of the Shinsengumi, Ayumu, often affectionately called "Ayu-nee" or "big sister Ayu," serves as the cook and housekeeper at the Shinsengumi compound. With her attractive appearance and nurturing personality, Ayumu is well aware of the occupations of those around her and takes on a big-sister role to Tetsu.

She is Susumu's older sister and, similar to him, she is a shinobi. In one episode, she mentions that they are part of the Oniwaban. While Susumu is based on an actual historical spy, Ayumu is a fictional character.

Ayumu meets her demise during the course of the anime.
