Considered one of the most talented students at Doumori Elementary, Ai Shinozaki is a 6th grader in class 6-5, one year ahead of Nube's class. A member of the Shinozaki zaibatsu, she is a beautiful girl who looks older than her years (tall, slender, and with a bust that rivals Miki's and Ritsuko-sensei's), has mastery of several musical instruments including the violin and piano (in the anime, her episode occurs right after she wins a violin contest), as well as fluency in three foreign languages besides Japanese. However, beneath this flawless exterior, this spectacles-wearing girl has many issues of her own. Ai grows weary of constantly practicing under the pressure from her family to succeed, detests being treated as a goddess by others who only see her as someone who will make them look good for associating with her, and also struggles with occasional shoplifting to get things without paying (according to her, she developed this habit to reassure herself that she was a normal person with flaws). It is these issues that lead her into trouble with the occasional youkai, who highlight her own problems and end up exposing her to Nube and the right path. In this instance, Ai was possessed by a demon that manifested as tell-tale eyes appearing on her hand and later all over her body, which didn't disappear until she openly confessed to Nube and Makoto, her only friend at the time, that she was a shoplifter and explained why she stole items. While Ai seems to live a lonely life, she has somehow befriended Makoto and may feel something more for him, though he doesn't really notice any romantic feelings and would rather use her to sing theme songs for his favorite sentai shows.
