I thought Shion really did love her, or did he love her but realized she loved Gyokuran so took out his jealousy and anger on her by almost raping her? I really am confused by how this is going to end with him being married to her ... But anyways I would say that overall maybe Shion isn't some poor sap, it seems he is making a lot of poor decisions that is making his life worse all on his own.
