Unfortunately there isn't any news about Real nor Vagabond.



Seeing as Inoue suffered so many severe burnouts in the past because he pushed himself so much and tries so hard with his work, part of me feels glad that he's decided to take a step into a new direction but the more selfish part of me just wants the journey with those characters I identify so strongly with and care so much about to continue.

it was a wholesome chapter. would recommend reading REAL even if you are not interested in sports, sports doesn't play a key role here I would say

Real is one of the very rare examples of sports anime that I would recommend to anyone, regardless of being a sports fan or not. It has so many characters with real (like the title points out) personalities and characteristics and it's such a beautiful story of superation and finding a reason to live. I'm still midway reading Vagabond but damn, Real definitely needs to be continued, the story was getting so interesting in these last volumes... This was pretty much the best sports story I've read or watched so far.



I don't mind how long I wait. I'll allow the author to take his time and hope he can continue this. I have to watch that interview, but I can imagine how hard it must be to illustrate and give personalities to so many deep characters.

I've only heard of this manga thanks to MAL announcing that it'll be coming out of hiatus and I didn't even realize that it was from the same guy who made Vagabond until I looked it up halfway into the manga. This manga at times was depressing but it made the happy moments oh so sweeter~ It just shows how real REAL is, reminding me that life's not going to give you what you want or expect every time.



I'm really happy that Yama's determination to live on led him to a doctor who specializes in helping people with his condition and was given a chance to see Togawa achieve and live his dream a lot longer than he thought. With one of the most important figureheads of the Tigers cheering them on, their spirits were reinforced just in time to prepare for their biggest tournament yet!

Very interesting chapter.



Yama is being optimistic once again means we'll get to follow yet another great character for the next chapters.



I really can't wait to read more, but, like you mentioned,  Real's pacing makes it much easier to wait for the next chapter (even if that takes years). The storyline has started to completely unfold in these latest chapters, after all.

                        I think this might be one of my favorite chapters.



Oota's explanation about his new goals in life and how his path has connected felt very real and I was glad that he found his purpose in helping others.



I was worried when Yama called Kiyo and I expected some sad goodbye but everything turned out to be the complete opposite.



I found the Reggae bit interesting and how hearing part of a strangers conversation could be the one thing to save you. I remember a few years ago I heard about a girl wanting to commit suicide, boarding the train and the passenger next to her was talking on the phone saying something along the lines of "you shouldn't be sorry for feeling" and going on to reassure the other person on the phone that their feelings were valid. That girl was deeply touched by those words and decided not to kill herself (at least not that day)



This chapter continued the new tradition of visualizing societal exclusion & the identity crisis and general self-perception in the most wonderful way!



Yama in the glass container with the pitch black tainted sky and the plugs as well as the positive masks were perfect.

I've worked with people with disabilities in real life so most of the themes in REAL and how the characters perceive themselves was familiar to me but I still feel as though the manga has extended my experience, broadened my view.



I feel like I've gained some serious insight when it comes to Yama's character and who he really is.



So having him reveal that there might be a way for him to extended his life beyond 25 years meant a lot to me and gave me myself a lot of hope!



I can only imagine how happy Kiyo must've been.



When Yama visited the team I felt extremely hopeful. I want the Tigers to give it their best! And prove to the Dreams and Takahashi that they're a force to be reckoned with!

I finished Slam Dunk two days ago and caught up with REAL so fast that there's currently nothing left... Yet in contrast to Hunter x Hunter or Berserk (or Vagabond for that matter), I feel as though I can await the next volumes with more patience and meanwhile reread these first 14 volumes many times .

You know I'm re-reading this entire series again as soon as i heard that chapter 85 coming out in 23rd May.



But anyways re-reading this series is definitely a treat, the nuance storytelling of having 3 protagonists with a completely different background.  Its not groundbreaking having 3 protagonists but how they relate to one another is interesting.



Nomiya you would think is the one stable one but his life is even more of a clusterfuck. Like real life, they so much unexpected throwbacks. Honestly, i see nomiya more like the author, one obvious example is how he lookslike the author, his constant back forth when doing his manga series is this the right direction? explaining it would take too much time but his ideology feels like fixed with nomiya and Shiratori. He's also from in the text an evolution of Hanamichi character in Slam Dunk ( maybe looking too deep).





Takahashi is the person that in the start everyone hates for obvious reasons.  His perspective is definitely the most fascinating, truly seeing a person will react in his circumstance.  Seeing this man journey and him finally having lunch with his mother and father is heartwarming. The man journey is less overcoming disability but accepting it and his circumstance does not define him as a person.  The best element of his storyline is definitely his support cast or just two friends being 3 blood musketeers.





Togawa his role is definitely interesting but doesn't resonate to me as much as the other two. That is his storyline is truly tragic especially his relationship with his father and how he does not know how to talk to his son.  Don't want to dwell on what makes his character great as itself explanatory but a person who been in Australia for 10 years now, I love Nagano description of Aussies.  In his perspective and biological fact Japanese or Asians in general are much smaller than Aussie so how he talks about them make sense. However the chin thing i don't get

Loved seeing Yama smile again. I actually felt happy in fiction when it was revealed that he could live alot longer. Really dig that this manga doesnt just show gloom and gloom and gloom. There's hope, there's always hope.
