Sorry for a little off topic here, but take Terminator movie /.../
I don't think that this is a good example because movies are completely diffrent thing than a manga - there is only so much that can be shown in 1,5-2h so each successive sequel (which must be a well selling production on its own) will be watering down the potential of the setting, in manga author can spend some time and sacrifice one or even more chapters to expand the setting, bring in new plot and even do something as (seemingly) impossible as change to some extent the genre. So as long as author has new (good) ideas he/she can continue existing manga while in movie case it is easier and better to create a completely new one (better for creator and the audience, the guys from marketing are another thing).
BTW - there is a good example that contradicts your theory - Discworld by Terry Pratchett is a series that has almost 40 volumes already and is as good now as it was at the beginning (actually even better since each volume expanded the universe and along with bringing new characters polished already existing ones to perfection). All that author needs is inspiration.

Becides Claymore is a dark fantasy manga and HOTD manga's story is something absolutely different.
That is not the point - I mentioned this title as an example that mangaka can change his plans and expand the series, superpower has nothing to do with it (GTo lasted 201 chapters without it, Black Lagoon and Nononono are around 80 by now and nothing suggest that they will end anytime soon), the only thing that is needed is good plot.

That's why I can't imagine super team of high school kids fighting hordes of zombies around all other the world together with their parents...
I can't imagine that either, for my part I expect that those parents won't live very long (they wouldn't fit into the story), as for team of super highschoolers - we already have them (how elsa can you describe this bunch) ;P

But well, maybe i'm wrong...Just don't forget, that mangaka works on 3 different titles of manga at the same time at this moment.
I know, and that indeed may be the main reason for ending HotD if the mangaka will chose to do so - making good money is one thing but there is a limit to how much work a person can do...
