Yea when reading that part of the manga it really irked me. I don’t know what the author was trying to do by not killing him off.

but this is really just a bunch of characters being dumb for the sake of it .

My personal interpretation is that the author was trying to convey either of two messages: that the bad guy doesn't always get a bad ending, or that two wrongs don't make a right. However, it's truly disgusting the way the author tried to frame it like it was a moral dilemma and it really pissed me off.
