Why does he want to escape? I mean it is more realistic that he wants to save his hide, but I had him pegged as the type, that after realizing that giving Japan Okinawa w/o blood shed wasn't an option and getting saved by his opponents, he would then just let himself ... well ... get caught and presumably imprisoned or even killed.
Anyways that was pretty cool, using the European Navy like that.
