What I like most about InuYasha is that there are several stories happening within an even larger story. We have the main saga: Shikon Jewel and various arcs, with the most important ones so far being Naraku's and the evil Kikyou's, which have not been resolved yet. And now we are seeing Toukajin for the first time. Whether he is a youkai or not, he is interesting, but I don't think they will delve too much into his story, whether he is human or not, where he came from, how long he has been living. Let's see how InuYasha will deal with him. As for him and Kagome, I think they have resolved their issues or at least reached a truce.
