Maison Ikkoku Chapter 162 Discussion

I cried at several of the chapters near the end of the series. For example when Mitaka says goodbye to Kyoko mentally after he is comforted by his new wife, and when Kozue and Godai finally break it off. For some reason, the simple art style of Takahashi lends itself well to moments of seriousness and resignation. I don't really believe any of the romances worked well, because all of her series are based on misunderstandings coming in the way of true connection. But at least in the end, everyone accepted their fate and found love where they could.

This is a silly romance manga that I knew the ending of before I read past the first chapter. Despite its silliness, it still managed to tell a heartfelt and endearing story. If you go into something like this expecting a serious and dramatic romance, then you'll be disappointed and I'll be wondering why you're in the last chapter comments.

                        The manga did test my patience with all the misunderstandings that ensued and just Godai's own indecisiveness. I was on the verge of dropping it various times as the kissing scene between Godai and Kyoko would always get interrupted (I lost count after 10). But the ending was well worth it. Godai finally becomes a father and Haruka is just adorable. 8/10 I couldn't ask for a more satisfying conclusion.

Finally I managed to finish, this dragged and back-and-forth romance. Yes back-and-forth because the development always reset every several chapters.



I didn't concentrate and skipped some chapters since the story was episodic and hardly progress.



All the characters were indecisive.  Godai can't rid of Kozue and he was upset when he thought she's seeing Nikaido.



Kyoko was the most indecisive character. She was jelly if Godai is with another girl but she's also seeing Mikata and she's also attracted to him.

If Mikata wasn't afraid of dog , he could have gone further with Kyoko.  Thanks for his dog phobia, Godai won.  stupid plot device

Kozue, I'm not sure what her true purpose.  She's a forced gf of Godai but sometimes the author forgot her to include in the story.  Then next volume she'll appear again  to annoy the readers , to make Kyoko jealous again, for fvck sake.  And for some reason Godai just can't break up with him.

The side characters/tenants were annoying , they weren't funny,  tbh.



This could have better if wasn't too dragged.
