Neon Genesis Evangelion Chapter 16 Discussion

Okay chapter, I did not mind the backstory, but they have to ease down on the uninteresting robo stuff

I didn't really understand the backstory that well, whatever

This was definitely an interesting chapter. A flashback that did not appear in the anime. Shinji found a bike, but then the police thought he stole it? That's really stupid that he got blamed for it. I guess the flashback has something to do with Shinji's current feelings about his father.

Nice bit of backstory for Shinji. His Aunt & Uncle were nice enough to him (well, except for not letting him under the umbrella), but there was a palpable distance between them. They built him a room, but it was outside and away from the rest of the family. His cousin, shown behind the parents, was a probably an enviable existence for Shinji.



Him using Gendo's name says a lot, he wanted his father to be there for him, just like he wanted his father to say the words of encouragement Misato did back in chapter 6. I'm thinking this was also the first time Shinji's mother has been brought up in the manga?



Anyway, I liked this. In the anime, you never get to see what life was like for Shinji before he came to Tokyo-3. So, yeah, this was nice.

Damn, I really need Asuka to appear, it's getting dull

A wonderful chapter.

This little bits of back story about Shinji is what I really wanted in the anime but never got it. Though the whole bike thing was a bit weird, considering the policeman looked like one creepy so and so. Also a special mention to the Angel. I really like the fact that its not gung ho like the other ones.

                        This chapter really shows the magnitude and scale of Nerv and the war effort.
