Great start to the manga version. First obvious difference already, with Rei piloting Unit 01 already. And it seems like the introduction with Shinji and Misato was a little longer too. Still, I really enjoyed this, and can't wait for more.

Really like the Rei piloting Unit 01 difference in the manga. I wouldn't have started to read the manga if it was the same as the anime.

----------------------------------------

A strong start for this manga.  It is easily recognizable with the show, but differs in subtle ways to keep it interesting.  Yoshiyuki Sadamoto has a very impressive attention to detail and I’m excited to continue reading this work.

Well, that was fairly different compared to the anime. Rei piloting Unit 01, fighting off the angel and protecting Shinji and Misato being the major difference. I guess this means the reason for her injuries is different in this version, though maybe not for some of them as it appeared her arm already had a cast on it. I really liked Shinji's monologue at the beginning, btw.

Would be cool if all chapters were this length. It felt pretty meaty.

I remember liking it a lot when I read it some 2 years ago. Now, it feels like a tad more angsty than anything else. Especially the 'I never cared if I got into an accident or something and died' part. Talk about depressing. Plus the statement 'in the first fourteen years of my life, things always happen as they had to happen' makes it seems he's more bored with his life. Oh well, only the first chapter so I'll keep the pitchfork down.

I've always liked the manga more than the anime, mainly since it does tone down some of the issues I had with the anime (particularly with the TV series, not EoE). I'm interested to see how my interpretations change (or not) during this re-read. The chapter makes no bones about the fact that its going to be a 'mankind vs angels' thing, at least from the outside. Shinji is a bit more 'colorful' in the manga I guess. I like how he tries to think about certain situations, except the monologue, which is a bit too extreme on the depressing end.
