As has been mentioned, it's a Pokemon "gotta catch em all" type novel, which is extremely unfortunate. The characters and everything are pretty good, and the character development is too, but mostly there's just such an incredible amount of characters that the vast majority have to be constantly ignored. A few get more regular screen time, but even the supposed "main" girl is not around that much.It really doesn't match with the tone of the novel, and what it views itself as. It pretends that it's this really sweet and caring sort of thing, and it is... briefly, until a girl is caught. Then it starts over with a new girl, and the old girl might get mentioned sometimes if she's particularly lucky. There is one or maybe two exceptions, but that's it.And, the Shiro arc is just miserably terrible. I'm still stuck in the middle of it, and I've just been reading each chapter hoping the whole time it will finish. It's a bunch of nonsense fighting that means nothing due to multiple factors, combined with a literal goddamn extended dream world. So you get chapter, after chapter, after chapter... of meaningless fighting interspersed with meaningless interaction with imaginary dream characters. And it shows no signs of stopping any time soon. Send help. f*ck.
