MC & ML are very smart, strong, capable, they both are good guys. ML actually has crush on MC from when he saw MC on tv. ML awakening trigger was "he wanted to be like MC".

So, MC narrative is he lived 3 lives where 1st life he was taken advantage of, 2nd & 3rd life ML died to saved him. Now MC living 4th life.

MC actually living his 21st life. He lived 19th lives already. What you're reading now is his 20th life where MC is very tired and depressed. He decided to meet ML at his high school. ML was MC fans, but he doubt MC who in front of him is actually "the hunter he idolize". ML thought he just some runaway kid trying to scam him, but he has 100℅ resemblance with his idol. ML took MC home. They are friends. The center found MC and forced him to go back to seoul. ML sad that he is separated from MC. His longing for MC made him awaken sooner. I think around 3 years. It should be 5 years later.

Because ML awaken sooner, the calamity also came faster. So here's the concept, MC is literally the main character of this world. The way he was belittled and suddenly awakened as very strong hunter, made a lot of people put their pray and hope in MC. To balance out, if there's someone strong, then there's also strong evil. The calamity is actually also crystallize of pray from people who wish the world to be burned. The stronger MC, the stronger the calamity.

MC always failed to defeat the last calamity. He kept regressing because he never been able to defeat it. It was like, when the world ends, people pray made MC regressing. The cycle repeat. The problem is, MC is too tired and depressed for repeating lives. And how the calamity is much much stronger. While MC also getting strong, other hunters stay the same. Which is very imbalanced.

ML power, aside from him can fly. Always changing. He is the only person who kept changing power every time MC regress.

Ok in this 20th life, MC & ML finally dating, but MC was very pessimistic and he told ML about his regressing. ML use his power to erase MC memories, made him only choose 3 lives which will help MC defeat the calamity. They both died again

MC & ML are now in 21st life. They both forgot their 20th life where they were also a couple. The reason why ML erase MC memories is for reducing the difficulty of the calamity. If MC only remember 3 lives, then the calamity difficulty only at level 4, which is still balance with current hunters strength.

Btw, the calamity which taken shaped of large animals, are taken from MC fear (phobia) of large animals like cow and farm animals.
