Not great, to say the least.

ML is pulls the "nice guy" tactic and essentially guilts FL into a relationship with him while she's still grieving the end of her previous marriage. She's only been a divorcee for 2-3 months and he was salty when she wasn't into him five years ago, salty again when when she still isn't into him (again, she just got divorced!!), and salty still when she tries to kindly and discreetly reject his efforts at getting at her. He could've been an endearing puppy, but he ended up more like a privileged, fussy man-child who's never had someone say no to them.

Spoiler

When he meets her for the first time after her divorce, he is very petty and antagonizes her because he just can't let go of her past aloofness towards him. He then gets further upset that she doesn't notice how he's having a hissy fit (they never had anything beyond a shallow professional relationship in the past).

News flash: She doesn't owe him anything and he's the one that needs to get over himself.

[collapse]

On the other hand, FL's ex is actually somewhat respectful of her boundaries albeit also unlikable with how he treated FL at the outset of the novel. Unfortunately, he made his realizations too late and the two were just never on the same page at the same time.

I had to drop this novel. I liked the premise, but let's get better male leads, please.
