I honestly dislike the ML, for a multitude of reasons.

  1. He kissed MC without his permission (He's a forceful prick)
  2. He is basically a stalker (asking for MC's timetable from someone else and following MC is what I'd define as stalking, and trust me, it's scary as hell).
  3. He made use of people's crush on him and basically treated them as tools to spy on MC.
  4. He's tried to undermine MC's discomfort around males (not verbally, but with his actions being too close for comfort and blowing it off when MC expresses his discomfort with ML knowing about his trauma).
  5. This is a bit minor, but he says "I don't like men, I just like you" and I feel like that's confusing as hell. Like the author tried to take "I like you for who you are" and turned it into something that sounds weird. I understand he means to say he likes MC regardless of his gender, but the phrasing just makes him sound like he's in denial and homophobic. I'm not sure if this counts as a character fault or the author's writing (and it's not like the author developed around the ML's acceptance of his s*xual preferences, so I guess it's the author? I don't know. I'm just looking too deep into it at this point.)
Unfortunately, he ruined this novel for me by being in it. If his bad points were focused into one single event maybe I could have disliked him a bit less, but all of these are scattered throughout the novel, and I can't even go through a few chapters without exclaiming how much I dislike him as a character.

Disregarding the ML for a moment, the novel is not something I would enjoy fully.

  • The characters are pretty flat. Not really memorable, and sometimes the usernames make it hard to remember (or I'm just bad with names). There are some that appear and just don't (?) come up again? And character interactions are just so sad (they seem so fake). The MC's character is really underdeveloped. It's like he's doesn't even have emotions.
  • The MMO partI don't even know if I can expect the game to be challenging with the whole setting, so I'll try running with logic instead. What kind of game has a 1:1 currency exchange rate? I know it's rmb but???? I don't know if it's normal in China these days since I don't put a lot of money into MMOs. Am I confused? Sure as heck. The game update is a terrible. Although it's made-up, developers basically want to kill off the players.Spoiler

(And what kind of game lets players have s*x with the NPCs? Especially since it's not designed to be a s*x game + it has over ten mil players. That's really messed up.)

[collapse] I'm just really confused about the setting.
  • I'm not really sure whether's its under the influence of my dislike for ML's character, but I didn't really enjoy the plot. It's basically romance with gaming (add a dash of identity p*rn at the beginning), and not much else? I'm halfway through the novel, at ch53, but as far as I've seen, the MC still dislikes the ML. I'm bored.
Tl;dr The game setting is really confusing. Characters are badly written.

My major issue with this novel: it's messy as hell. The author doesn't seems to have planned out a lot. The settings, plot events and characters all have this ambiguity to them that felt like the author wrote down whatever plot they had just thought of. I had thought the setting was in high school, and only found out it was in university over 20+ chapters later. Clearly, it's not been planned out.

Surely, there people can enjoy this novel (especially since it doesn't delve deep into the strategic part of gaming), but it's definitely not for me. Have a good day.
