Tl;dr: translation is generally good, but the story is almost entirely carried by misunderstandings between the leads that would be resolved with like two sentences. FL is the clueless type. The translation itself is pretty good. I’ve definitely read better, but this one is 95% fluid and easy to understand I’d say, though there are occasional issues with personal pronouns and sometimes messing up who is being talked about. I also find the term “beastmen” as a way to refer to people who are mostly human but can present physical traits of an animal, distracting. I think I’d prefer “shapeshifter” or “changeling”, but that’s just a personal preference. So I’d give the translation a 4.5 rating. The story itself has some interesting points, but poor character development. However the most aggravating is the romantic relationship of the leads. The synopsis led me to believe that ML basically knows that FL is who he’d been searching for, and then romance was seducing her like a yandere-esque “you don’t know that I know who you are and I want to keep you by my side” and she ultimately confesses after getting swept up in the romance. But no. 60+ chapters in and it’s still a tediously drawn out misunderstanding between the two leads, with my frustration directed almost entirely at the FL who is kinda the clueless type (I hate this kind of FL), who insists on lying. She pretends to not be afraid of the ML’s dark reputation because she thinks his reputation is grossly exaggerated, but she continues lying and dragging out the misunderstanding because she’s scared he’ll be violent towards her when he finds out.I would have just moved on from this novel 30 chapters ago but I find the ML’s backstory sad and weird and kind of interesting so I want to know more about it. The ML deserves better, so I really don’t care about the romance element anymore and would be happy to read less of the FL in general. Maybe this will change as I read more, but as of now I’m sick of her.
