This story is sexist, racist and also ableist. While I do think the storytelling is good, I just cannot like this. The main character is very problematic but is still described as this saintly hero. There are virtually no female characters and the few that appear do not have any kind of personality. I get that this story is set in ancient china where women had no agency whatsoever. However, the main character is supposed to come from modern times but still upholds these mysoginistic values.Spoiler
Whenever the xiongnu (nomads who lived in mongolia) they are treated as lesser than human, not only by the supportig cast but by the main character as well,
[collapse] who, once again, was supposed to be someone with modern values. The ableist part is not as severe but it still bothers me Spoilerfor the imperial examination, any person with a disability or sickness is excluded.
[collapse] The main character justifies it in the novel, but the reasons really did not convince me at all.In summary, good story, shitty person and values. If you want an easy read whithout turning your brain on and do not mind the main character being a gary sue a-hole, then this is for you.
