Strange Grief Wants to Retire ~ The Weakest Hunter Dreams of a Hero ~ Chapter v9 Discussion

This is a chic comedy and an interesting fantasy novel about adventurers. Better than many others that I have read, can be safely recommended to read.

But the story has one big flaw that spoils the whole thing. It's the protagonist. He's just an idiot who everyone thinks is a great strategist. The author forcibly unfolds the plot as if every action of the protagonist through the butterfly effect saves the situation and leads to victory. The protagonist himself has no idea about it.

It's funny at first. He's like the Big Lebowski and doesn't want to risk his life in the dungeons and only wants to increase his artifact collection and open a candy store one day. This motivation is easy to understand and empathize with him, you even find it funny... Up to a point. The problem is that the hero doesn't change, he doesn't grow, there are no barriers in front of him - he's not afraid of anything and he doesn't take damage due to magic rings. Further more - he doesn't worry about his friends or strive for anything.

No fanservice, no desires of his own - the protagonist is simply driven from mission to mission where he through a series of randomness turns the table. It comes to absurdity - he doesn't question what he gives to his friends (cursed items), doesn't remember the main villains, etc. And forcing victory starts to become very strained, implausible.

Spoiler

In volume 9, the machine defined him as a fool with potential for 4 points (even a child would have 10) - it seems the author hates the protagonist.

[collapse]

If you can turn a blind eye to that - you'll definitely enjoy the story. Even I spit on the protagonist and read to the end and keep an eye out for new chapters.
