White Moonlight Omega Always Wants To Possess Me Chapter 117 Discussion

I don't know if another reviewer was reading a different story than I was, but honestly there was very little comedy or fluff in this story, if any at all really. The novel centers around a lot of dark themes, soooo... don't go in expecting fluff, comedy, or lots of sweet moments (there's a few, but they're... I'll cover those later). I went ahead and added a tragedy tag, and I'll probably drop a spoiler about that later, so just be warned going in.

There's also plenty of misunderstandings. In fact you could argue that the entire novel is based around a few very specific misunderstandings. I'll be giving major spoilers from here on, but they're not necessary to understand my review and I'll keep them in the spoiler brackets.

The key misunderstandings center around the "will of the world" and how Ji Xiao, our MC, tries to deal with them. JX is forced to act a certain way or she'll be "punished" with severe pain and, in some cases, throwing up blood. Because of this JX is often misunderstood by the people around her for her actions, and has to come up with silly reasons to explain her behavior. This silly isn't really played off as comedic per se because, as a reader, I was often left feeling like she was more stressed by trying not to OOC while also retaining her morals. It's played off as cute but mostly I just felt heartache for JX.

The first misunderstanding is that she cannot tell anyone she's from another world, at least not directly. So everyone is left to believe that she was that previous horrible person. The previous body's actions were never played off as "childish tantrums" but rather twisted and cruel ways to hurt someone. She locked Wei Qingyu in a small, underground room with no lights when she wanted to punish her. She also had the maids verbally and physically ab*se her in the house. Recovering her reputation from these behaviors takes time, and I couldn't help but feel melancholic while reading her struggle to change the perceptions of others.

The previous body's behaviors have a deep-seated cause, which is part of the darker themes of this novel. Buckle up for the first spoiler, which is a bit long.

Her father was obsessed with her dead mother to the point of building a memorial of her and hosting a very twisted birthday/death anniversary every year. OG JX was forced to remain locked in the room with her father while they had a "family" dinner and he talked to a portrait with a custom made dress draped over it. The previous body apparently tried to fight and struggle to leave and was often tied down to keep her in the room.

On top of that JX's father was also obsessed with WQ's family's success, believing that he should have been better than them. He pushes those beliefs on JX starting from the age of ten because, after she was kidnapped and beaten in place of WQ, he convinces her that it's the fault of the Wei family. OG JX actually pretended to be WQ to protect WQ from the kidnappers at the time and even tried to explain it to her father later. He is always manipulating JX into believing that WQ and her family are the "real" villains. I've also added a child ab*se tag because of this.

The second major misunderstanding is that JX hates WQ, which is fueled by the previous body's actions towards WQ. This misunderstanding is probably the second longest lasting in the story.

OG JX actually loved WQ, but she couldn't reconcile the person her father told her WQ was with the girl that she loved, causing her to have an obsessive and abusive desire for WQ. We learn this from OG JX's discovered diaries later.

The third major misunderstanding is 100% spoiler:

JX believes that she can somewhat control the plot of the world. She tries to change the fate of her best friend Qi Qi who was supposed to die before on JX's 17th birthday. She really only manages to delay her death by about a month. After Qi Qi's death it's revealed that her prolonged life may have actually been more painful (physically) than if she had died normally. This is specifically the reason for the tragedy tag, though there are other reasons.

The fourth major misunderstanding is that all the good guys are indeed good guys. It's typical of transmigration stories to have this cliche, but this story actually pulls it off really well.

There's only really one good person gone bad and that's because of their hatred for the Ji family and Ji Xiao in particular. The Ji family are absolutely horrible people in the original novel, and JX's dad is still horrible, so their behavior isn't exactly unwarranted even if it's unfair to judge JX because of her dad.

One major upside is that the OG ML is actually a pretty good guy and might have fallen in love with our MC JX despite them both being Alphas.

There are other minor misunderstandings, most of which are cleared up because the two leads talk things out, which is good, but there are still a few that take a bit.

Major and minor complaints:

"Story starts in school, second half will enter society" By second half this means somewhere around chapter 90. With a main story that ends at chapter 138 this is a bit long. It also doesn't help that things start time skipping a lot after a certain point, causing me a lot of confusion. It felt like the author realized they were dragging out the high school part so they had a chapter broken in to three parts; First part is a time skip, second part is a major plot point, third part is another time skip. This happens a lot after spoiler three's major plot point.

The relationship progress is frustratingly underwhelming.

The original confession is interrupted by Qi Qi's death. The next step of progress is actually their first kiss, not a confession. This happens when JX is under a lot of pressure and enters her rut early, causing her to force herself on WQ after running home. She then promptly passes out. This doesn't actually cause them to start dating, instead this is dragged out by explanations of ambiguity between the two... for years according to the time skips. The confession happens when they've been in college for a while with basically a couple of sentences that can be summarized as "Aren't I your girlfriend?" "Yes, you are." And then it's just... they're together. The marriage proposal happens because the engagement rings are discovered by JX after a fender-bender. Literally a car accident happens, she finds the rings in the glovebox, and just puts one on. There's basically very little intimate lead up, just the two leads crashing into each other.

The drama related to the "will of the world" drags on waaaaaaaaay too long. Things appear to be resolved multiple times with multiple major events but the writer keeps dragging it out with ambiguity about how...

"Fate" based on the original story will still lead to JX's death. This really only needs to be "resolved" once, but the author uses a few separate moments to tease the readers that it might be resolved only to have JX constantly be internally pessimistic about her survival.

Things just get too depressing and stay depressing for a very long time in this story.
