• A good chunk of the novel (Spoiler

  [collapse]) focuses on freeing the ML from servitude, though I didn't mind it.
• The MC is really weak physically, personally, I wasn't that annoyed about it since the ML was there to help him.
• ML's devotion is obsessive.

Even though the premise is the MC trying to save his family and himself, the novel is mostly character-focused, which is a strength.
