The story is basically fine. The characters are basically fine. The setting is basically fine.The devil's in the details, though. And the author goes a bit more into detail about things that have nothing to do with the story than he really should, while handwaving away any kind of effort that should have gone into preparing for fighting the evil god.Spoiler
"Swordsmanship? Just toss some skill points into it or something. Soy sauce?! Let's get a four-dimensional workshop dedicated solely to making it!"
The author goes out of his way to point out that the protagonist doesn't have specific knowledge about most things, but around the same time in the story he has detailed information on a disease that's been eradicated for decades.
[collapse]There are various other issues like that which should be minor problems, but they become major problems because the author spends too much time on them, and the way he repeatedly takes casual hobbies and is somehow supposed to be at or better than professional level in them gets boring pretty fast.
