I needed a minute to process this book....

Yes, I realize I never picked up v2 but v1 was a roadtrip. Like the kind where you think you're gonna be in a cushy hotel at the end of the trip only to end up in the middle of the woods in a log cabin wondering how the hell you ended up there (**book pun**).

Let me unpack before we get to the s'mores. First off, this sh*t is good. Like I enjoyed the MC, our prime minister Anderheim can get it, he's in it for blood. He is -ruthless- towards the people who f*cked over his daughter and we are there for it. I loved the pits that he led the main cast into and yes, most of the characters kinda dig their own pits, he just hands them the shovel, and it's wonderful. If you love schadenfreude, you're gonna love it here.

Our MC has chemistry with his daughter, the people he collaborates with (especially our High Priest), and the supporting cast are all wrapped around his finger. But I'm sure you're wondering, what about the ML?

I won't spoil too much, but I do want to mention that I found the chemistry between our MC and ML a bit lackluster. I feel like there should've been a bit more s*xual tension. The whole point of enemies to lovers is that I want my MC and ML to be ripping their throats out before actually doing the fun part, and sadly that didn't deliver as hard as I was expecting it to. That's mainly because our ML is also kinda.... boring? He's not very complex and he's also not getting in the way of our MC, just following along till the turning point is revealed and he falls headfirst for our MC... which... yeah.... great.... so we're not ripping each other's throats out beforehand?

I also had a small hope for the ML to be yandere, despite there being no tags for it.... this also wasn't the case.... he truly was just... there.

Our secondary pairing was much more interesting to follow if I'm being honest (Head Priest x ???, I won't reveal this for you). But if I'm being honest...I would've preferred Anderheim and the Head Priest ending up together, they just fit so well.

I'm sure you also saw the beastiality tag in there too, and this is a Spoiler

I just don't get why it had to be there. Like there's other ways to get revenge on the villain of the story (the 'heroine') and her family. Not throwing them to a pit of wolves *literally* to get imp**gnated or sold off into s*avery. I felt like this felt too much like revenge p*rn and can really turn you away from reading the rest of the novel. In the end, I almost felt sorry for the 'heroine' and her family because the author didn't have to go that far.

[collapse]

Overall, I only gave it four stars because it's still cringe to read in the 1st person no matter how good you articulate it and also the author seemed competent enough to write in third person but just chose not to, the beastiality tag, and also because the sauce and s*xual tension were just not there for me with the main pairing.

I'd recommend this to people who have gotten tired of the villainess reincarnation trope and want a different perspective on it and I thank the translators for their hard work because even though I wasn't a fan of the pairing's chemistry I still had a good time reading this.
