This is a ROMANCE story with strong fantasy and action elements. I started reading from the manhua before reading the novel, which I highly suggest others do the same too since the manhua flow is better and progress more tightly knitted.

I say this is a solid romance because readers will not only love the main couple, but all the side couples as well. I swear, this is written by an author who understands what it is like to like someone on various degrees and flavors. Author knows what lust, admiration and respect are, the heartwarming and tragic sides of love, and knows the difference between loving a person and falling in love with them. Beware that readers will be fed dogfood almost every chapter, and MC is neither a golden retriever nor a cold as*hole ML like in most josei, but a 'man of culture' iykyk Spoiler

Yes, MC is an M. There are plenty of kinky s*x after they confirmed their love for each other, mostly with the FL initiating. There is consent!

For those who criticize the romance here, they just simply didn't stay long enough to read. Or maybe they wish MC is a templated standard ML. If yes, they should read a different novel. Chu Ge (the MC) might be a pe*vert (I mean, it's a no-brainer given he's a harem novel writer by trade) but he is just an 'ordinary man' with 'ordinary mindset'. His preferences does not entail he has no morality nor respect for the opposite s*x. Rather, MC is the one person who thinks and worries for his heroine more than even the heroine herself. Readers simply need time to brew and see the development between the two, from strangers to actual lovers. Spoiler

More than anyone, MC himself wants to yield control over the world of the novel he wrote and give everyone the happiness and freedom they desire. In the first place, he never wanted to control or manipulate any breathing, living person. He was forced by the circumstances with little understanding of the situation at first. Later on, he even deleted the line in the novel where he 'wrote' that the FL 'will rather have no man if not the Creator God', at the risk of his novel world crumbling or their bf-gf relationship disappearing.

The first 300 or so chapters embrace comedy and slice-of-life, with the importance on Qiuqiu (the FL) learning to be a modern person---or rather, a real living individual. Meanwhile, the second half of the novel focuses on the martial arts and the character growth of MC and those around him, be they allies or enemies.

Spoiler

"May Father God write no mediocre person." I really love this line, because I admire the way author had brought even side characters to life. Villains are smart, and they think and act in unexpected ways. Damn, even Chu Ge is smart in ways unexpected to the reader, and it's like reading a detective novel without realizing it is one. MC is a creator who loves his characters, but not to the point he's idiotic enough to suffer when they show hostility.

[collapse]

Not only is this entertaining to read, there are also plenty of moments where questions of morality are raised Spoiler

and this is mostly shown through the struggles of his writer best friend, who decided to become a criminal of the underworld, as well as the designated enemies of his novel world. They made a lot of wrong decisions but also took responsibility of them.

[collapse]

Funny and sweet interactions abound. Engaging plot, good twists, non-flat characters, justifiable emotional growth and connections, and solid world building. The battles are amazing, and the conclusion of each arc does not leave readers wanting. Even the final war is satisfying.

I really love the novel, but if there's one thing I must criticize, Spoiler

it's the subtle xenophobia, discrimination and pro-Chinese propaganda where MC and FL showed lack of interest/distaste in all other countries they visited (SK, Indonesia, America), even going as far as implying "it's somewhat okay to destroy cities since they're in other countries" during the final war.

[collapse] I'd love to give this a 4.5/5 star rating for this blip.
