The thing that irks me the most about this is the pacing of the story. How should I put this... it's... bad? In my opinion at least. Especially in the beginning when it matters the most.It feels like the author is banking on you reading the blurb of this as part of your reading comprehension for the novel. And that, in my opinion, is bad storytelling. It's like: 'you read the short blurb right? Here- BAM BAM BAM!'It feels like a speed run, like one of those 5 minutes per episode dramas. There's no set up, no buildup. It really resembles a speed run, eg: immediately FL breaks off with ex, ML's people show up right away suddenly surrounding them in the front door like the police in cop films. It's just so... awkwardly sudden in an ostentatious way? It makes you go— 'Uuuuh... Wha?'FL and ML's attitude as well. It's like they're forcing their archetypes/cliches. Like, they try to make the FL one of those cool 'I don't care' girl-bosses but it resembles a replication of this attitude rather than an actual one. Or the 'standoffish CEO who's actually warm once you know him' cliche. I think their cliches/troupes didn't work well because there wasn't any build up/prolonged period of only knowing the character as one side of the cliche/troupe. So the change feels unannounced. It just doesn't feel right. The abrupt pacing is off-putting.It threw away the entire immersion and actually managed to annoy me. There are other strange things as well, and the author didn't manage to interest me at all. Anyways, from the chapters I managed to read... I did not enjoy. I can't bring myself to continue it.I gave my review an additional star to make up for me not finishing it.
