I Really Am a Slag Shou! Chapter 96 Discussion

  • #1
Plot: After dying young in his first life, the MC Chi Zhao was approached by a Slag Shou System that promised to give him a chance of resurrection as long as he plays out his role as a slag shou and finishes his missions accordingly. The MC agrees and proceeds to be sent to one world after another.

Major Spoilers: Spoiler

Although I haven't read everything, it's quite clear that the protagonist in each world that the MC visits is the same soul. There's something going on in the background with the SS System and the Main System, but IDK about that yet! In any case, MC fails horribly at fulfilling his mission each time and his chances of success just continue to decrease as he goes along with the resonance of his and ML's souls.

Thoughts: My thoughts on the plot are that it is very similar to another novel I read recently 'Heroic Death System', because of that, I found myself comparing the two constantly T.T It's partly the reason why I stopped reading at 96! So... next time, I'll have to read this first jsalkfjsalf At the moment, not sure if it's biased, I can't help but think that, while the plot and premise is good, it feels like it's lacking something.

More specifically, I feel rather empty whenever a story arc finishes. Each arc ends in a happy ending. But, just like how the MC changes his perception on romance after every completed universe, it's easy to feel numb to it. It feels like its angst all the time and that the MC and ML aren't really compatible with each other (more on this below!)

Characters:

  • MC (Chi Zhao) : He's kind and very bad at acting. In the first world, he maintains a good boy appearance while revealing stronger and darker parts of himself -- which only continue to grow the more worlds he encounters.
  • SS System: The Slag Shou System in this novel has a lot of personality! It's also very scheming...
  • ML: Spoiler

As mentioned in the earlier spoiler, the ML is really the same soul in all the worlds so far. However, his personality is different in each one until the point that he meets and falls in love with he MC. After which, he turns into a yandere!

Thoughts: I felt that the characters in this novel are very strong, but that their dynamics are pretty weak. Compatibility and chemistry are nonexistent and it feels like the MC is just being swept on his feet each time after the ML falls in love with him... Maybe that gets better as the story gets further??? I'm not sure.

Rating: My rating for this novel for now is a solid 3/5! Like I said in the beginning, I think part of my hesitation is because I read a similar story very recently and it's clouding my mind. So, I'll leave it alone for now and just reread it later with a fresh mind! Maybe I'll like it better then.
