I normally never leave comments on novels, but I think I have to for this one because people are praising this so highly and saying to “stop being sensitive.”

I have to agree with a lot of other comments about this novel... the transphobia is too much. I understand that China has a very different viewpoint about trans people than the country I live in. However, I don’t think that negates the harm that is done when undertaking the task of writing something you don’t know a lot about. The author’s blatant disregard for discussing the serious topic of being trans in an unwelcoming environment ultimately makes the story unpalatable to me. Maybe it gets better, but I wouldn’t waste my time reading through poor writing to hopefully see the author not treat the OG Lu Xi poorly, especially when it’s from the viewpoint of the MC. This is a fictional story and why not make it a nice world for trans people?

Spoiler

The cousin viewing his cousin as a “confused boy” made me so furious. Being trans is not a confusing phase that is only for the mentally ill, that rhetoric is absolutely disgusting and needs to be viewed for what it is: transphobic. Furthermore, the ORIGINAL LU XI IS TRANS. She is a trans woman that wanted to get s*x reassignment surgery in Italy. That is NOT just being a “cross dresser.” Crossdressing and being trans are very different things and it deserves to be treated and written about as such.
