The story takes a rather known type of novel, the dark fantasy, and goes into the now typical "Adventures are idiots, Goblin are horrible" trope. Yet, it is a fun read since the main character not only is very grounded, he is also an veteran in combat, but a rookie to an Adventurer's lifestyle, so it does give a rather fun view of everything. And then, as we keep marching into what looks a standard trope adventure, the story starts to take a different turn. Suddenly, mystery takes a bigger role, adventuring feels dangerous and as we get information of forgotten civilization, sleeping demon lords and the constant danger to the life of commonfolk, the story always keeps into our almost crestfallen mercenary and our so ever happy priestess trying to make a living. It doesnt go into a harem cliche, nor the "How MC is so OP" cliche. It feels grounded, the danger feels real and we see our main cast go over difficulties using their head, their skills and a bunch of good and bad luck. Its not a new type of story, but it has a likeable cast, a great story and unexpected (even surprising) outcomes. (Didnt really like the way the narrative starts, being way to repetitive, but it gets better as the story goes on)
