Gunnm Chapter 25 Discussion

Wow, what madness this chapter encapsulated. Desty Nova is too much of a mad scientist, with all his crazy experiments. The mangaka did well to convey that with his face expressions and mannerisms.

Ido has arrived at Desty's home to try to buy back the berserker body, but instead he becomes a hostage. And of course, Desty has a gorgeous assistant. He's what Ido probably wanted to be and have with Alita, except Ido is not a mad lad. After seeing Desty's failed experiments, Ido is concerned with what his true motives are and Desty speaks about controlling Karma. It was a bit strange and difficult to fully understand his goal. I'm sure it's much more complicated than what he shares. He shows Ido a brain he recovered and brought back to life and of course, who could it be? Fucking Zapan man. Jeezus. Not only is his brain back to life, but Desty plans to give him the berserker body. Ido tries to kill the brain before that can happen, but Desty's assistant takes him down and breaks his arm. Then Desty sends someone to pick up Alita, so Alita goes and grabs her blade knowing that she'll have to save Ido.

Desty Nova activates the berserker body's full functions and it begins to change shape. Ido insists that he shut it down because he knows what'll happen, but it's too late. The berserker body breaks lose destroying part of the lab as one cable plugs itself into a power source and the other consumes Zapan's brain. Desty gets pinned in rubble and Ido manages to break free. Desty instructs Ido to grab the serum he was going to use to break down the berserker's cells and Ido charges at the berserker body, but we don't see the outcome. We see that the berserker body is complete now after taking in Zapan's brain. The only thing it remembers or knows is its hatred for Alita. Goddamn it. So this will be Alita's final boss match. Of course it just had to be a godly powered up version of a revived Zapan. He just couldn't stay dead. At the end of the chapter, Alita shows up to see everything pretty much destroyed and Desty sitting there. Zapan is gone and Ido is nowhere to be seen, which insinuates that his attempt failed. Alita asks where Ido is and Desty plays dumb as if not knowing who she's talking about.

                        The crazy doctor has gone and seriously fucked up, now Alita has to deal with the problem herself.
