That splash page of Makaku sitting there in the wreckage staring down Alita was really cool and well drawn. Makaku's plan of tearing Alita's limbs off and fashioning her into a screaming pendant instead of killing her is hella sadistic. Even Alita calls him out for being messed up, as she puts it.
Alita did well to dodge one of Makaku's grind cutters, but she gets caught off guard by his other fingers that can also turn into grind cutters. Makaku's takes the baby and baits Alita to come after him before he jumps down the hole he made that leads to the sewage system. And go Fang for being a good dog! He didn't hesitate to jump down there and go rescue the baby. Alita feels responsible for talking a big game and jumps down too. Ido mentions that her only hope would be to activate the berserker body's true potential with its battle mode, which would need to be activated by her instinctual desire to fight and survive since it's connected to her brain. Alita is determined to rescue the baby and defeat Makaku because for once she's beginning to feel truly alive.
She hears the baby cry and heads off in that direction, but doesn't see Makaku until he ambushes her, but she does well to dodge his grind cutters and save the baby. Then the true hero of this chapter, Fang, appears from one of the sewage pipes and jumps onto Makaku's face attacking him. Fang bites down onto Alita's old arm that was stuck in Makaku's eye and yanks it out causing him to bleed heavily. That's a good boy, Fang. Alita gives Fang the basket with the baby in it and tells him to get to safety, but Makaku tries to attack the dog in a fit of rage and Alita blocks him and destroys his arm all in one attack. Nice. She seems to be unlocking more power now that her will to fight is stronger. Now that Fang and the baby are safe, Alita is ready to go all out.
