Omniscient First-Person’s Viewpoint Chapter 272 Discussion

  • #1
One of the best novels I read with one of the best Main Characters. I have noticed that I'm always very fond of shameless Mcs, and after reading this, it has been confirmed.

This novel has comedy, good story, good world building, great characters, great villains and a bit of romance and action. While it doesn't have many fights, the few that actually happen are great and exciting. So if you are looking for an action-packed novel where there's a big fight every 6 chapters, this novel isn't for you.

The protagonist:

Like I said above, he is shameless, and that's what makes him awesome. One of the reviews below says that the MC is an idiot, trust me he isn't. This novel is written in first person, specifically from the mc's point of view, and he is what we call an "unreliable narrator", which is literally in the tags. So sometimes he makes decisions that don't make sense at the moment but later on you'll understand.

That's why the MC can sometimes come off as an idiot. The reviewer I mentioned before would have found that out if he read more than 20 chapters but whatever.

The cast:

The cast of characters is unique not only in their personalities but also in their abilities and what they offer to the group/party. Tbh, reading this feels a lot like reading konosuba. Each side character has a certain quirk in their personalities and the interactions between them and the MC is always fun to read.

I'm gonna give slight spoliers comparing the two if you are interested:

Spoiler

Konosuba Cast:

Darkness: Super strong physically but she is a masochist and her attacks always miss

Megumin: a delusional mage that refuses to use any magic except explosion magic, which she can only use once a day, and afterwards she loses all her strength and can't even walk.

Aqua: useless goddess that loves alcohol and can use her magic to make party tricks like a fountain of water coming out of her head

Kazuma: shameless protagonist whose only redeeming quality is being a bit smart and have good luck. It is his job to managed all the above and make them get things done.

Viewpoint cast:

Azzy (dog girl) : She is a human with dog features but her mind is literally that of a dog's. She is extremely strong but s*upid and refuses to attack humans (most of their enemies are humans)

Tyr: The first (and most powerful) Vampire. She is a 1000+ year old vampire (her body looks like 14) that is lacking very common knowledge and is very sensitive about her age, weaknesses and the fact that she gets weaker in the sun.

Shay: a powerful yet immature and unstable regressor (understandably bc she has lived like 13 lives) that has severe trust issues. Also she is pretending to be a man because... mmm just because.

Mc: dramatic magician/con-artist/genius with a mindreading ability and, like kazuma, is shameless; leading to many fun interaction with the characters above. It is also his job to get them to do stuff while trying to overcome their quirks.

Whether it is a movie, game, tv show or a novel, one of the things I value the most is the chemistry and interactions between characters. Even if everything else sucks, if this is great, I'll enjoy it. This is something this novel does great, the chemistry between the cast is great and that's why even though the story is a bit slow, I never got bored (slow does not mean bad).

Going back to konosuba, that show doesn't have much of a story but I still love it because of its characters. Unlike Konosuba, this novel has both a good cast of characters and a good story and world building, so that makes this even better.
