Omniscient First-Person’s Viewpoint Chapter 231 Discussion

Edit Again: I was wrong, it's peak. There WAS noticeable lull in the story where I THOUGHT it was going to slowly peter out and die, but apparently that was clearly by design. Lots of foreshadowing, lots of hindsight and most of all a phenomenal payoff for all of it. Translation and localization quality is still wonderful as well, I canot reccomend it enough.

Edit: I did have rather high hopes for this novel, and I do continue to read it to this day, but the plot has (rather predictably) lost a lot of steam with the end of the Prison part of the story. To put it in a needlessly flowery way, there was fire here and now all we have is the smoke and embers. Still hot enough to cook on and the fire could catch again if some wood is thrown on tactfully but realistically I think whoever is in charge of the kindling has had a bit too much to drink.

Original review:

I don't review things, in fact this is the first, but I feel the need for this story. It's great, actually spectacular. I only read the free chapters, maybe it gets dragged on too far later but as of chapter 138, I could see quite a few avenues for the story to keep going. I understand that guidelines exist for a reason, and tooting the horn of a TL is generally not what we want to be doing but Genesis does a fantastic job with the story. The choice of words, the cleaning, the formatting propels the story forward, word choice is integral in a good story, especially for the parts of the story containing death. I daresay that it is the backbone of this entire novel.

The unreliable narrator makes us look through the story in a way that has readers looking for foreshadowing, the setting itself, the brief periods of seeing how the others viewed the MC as it goes on. When he gets caught in the occasional lie by omission it is just enough to hint more without overplaying the author's hand and avoids jeopardizing the point of an unreliable narrator.

The characters other than the main 3 feel somewhat lacking in actual fleshing out for the readers as of yet, and of course our lovely narrator doesn't do us much in solving this, but there has been slow lead-up to it. Characters up to this point have developed, albeit slowly and subtly throughout the story, and huge revelations have been hinted at regarding both our narrator and other characters.

Do I recommend this story? Yes. Do I think the story can keep going without getting stale past this point in it? Yes, if done right. Is it written well so far? Yes. Most importantly, am I invested in the story itself to the point of making what will be my first review on this site? Yes.
